Forgotten former England star, 37, becomes unemployed after two years playing in little-known Man Utd role

A FORMER England star has announced that he will be leaving Manchester United.

The 37-year-old had taken up a player-coach role at Old Trafford after being best known for his exploits at Tottenham.

Tom Huddlestone, who joined after a second spell at Hull City, took to X to confirm his parting of ways with with the Red Devils.

The four-cap England international released a statement on social media confirming the decision.

He said: “Today marks my final day at this incredible football club. Over the past two seasons, I have experienced remarkable growth and invaluable learning, both on and off the pitch.

“Every day, I have had the privilege of learning from amazing people, gaining insights into all aspects of player development and well-being.

“Entering an office environment for the first time was daunting, but from day one, I was made to feel welcome and at ease. I am and will remain forever grateful for the smooth transition.”

Huddlestone also had some advice for pro footballers approaching the end of their career who are also interested in coaching.

He continued: “For any senior professionals considering a coaching career, I highly recommend taking on a ‘playing coach’ role for a season or two at the end of your playing career.

“This experience has been eye-opening, revealing the dedication involved in planning, executing, and analysing every training session, as well as meticulously preparing for the games schedule.

“These efforts are often taken for granted as a player, so witnessing and participating in this side of the game has been truly remarkable.”

He concluded: “I wish the club every success in the future.

“Special thanks to everyone in the academy, both players and staff, especially Trav, Demps, Nick and Macca for affording me this incredible opportunity.

“Best of luck in the future. #MUFC.”

Huddlestone made 242 Premier League appearances for Hull and Tottenham, scoring a combined 11 times and adding 25 assists.

He was also a part of the last Spurs side to win a major trophy – the 2008 League Cup.

Huddlestone also spent time at Wolves and Derby in his career.
