Templegate’s Newmarket Placepot picks

LEG 1: Ghostwriter, Capulet

GHOSTWRITER was impressive when winning at Ascot on quick ground last time and can go close in this stronger company. He clocked a good time and can step forward over this mile.

CAPULET went close in a hot contest at Leopardstown and is proven at this distance. A repeat of that effort would take him very close.

LEG 2: Relief Rally

RELIEF RALLY looks a Group 1 filly in waiting after her impressive Lowther win at York last time. She showed lots of pace there as she did when winning the Super Sprint and losing the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot on the nod. This trip and quick ground are ideal and she can raise her game again.

LEG 3: Lake Forest, Vandeek

LAKE FOREST showed his liking for this trip on fast ground when winning the Gimcrack at York last time out. He picked up strongly there and wasn’t stopping. He can improve further for William Haggas.

VANDEEK has the strongest form on show but he’s been doing it on soft ground. He took the Richmond at Glorious Goodwood before battling to win the Group 1 Prix Morny in France last time. He’s respected despite that unknown over the going.

LEG 4: Liberty Lane, Majestic, Dual Identity

LIBERTY LANE looks ideal for this test after a gutsy win at Doncaster. He was headed before getting up again on the line over a mile so this extra furlong should suit. He has just a 4lb penalty and ran well on the July course earlier this season. There’s more to come from Karl Burke’s hope.

MAJESTIC is only 3lb higher than when winning this last year and showed promise at Chepstow last time. That gives him a chance, while DUAL IDENTITY had plenty left in the tank when scoring at Sandown. It was softer ground there but he won’t be far away.

LEG 5: Topanga, Chorus

TOPANGA is bred to enjoy this sort of challenge and trainer Andrew Balding won this race 12 months ago.

CHORUS comes from William Haggas so should know her job on debut.

LEG 6: Key To Cotai, Miss Information

KEY TO COTAI ran a cracker from a bad draw when fifth in a big field at York last time out. Trainer Ed Walker has been in good form.

MISS INFORMATION battled to score in a fair novice contest at Ascot latest and can take a step forward.
