Welshman Jak Jones had spotted it while taking a shot in the 19th frame.

A commentator joked: “That’s the first victim of the day!”

Spectators at the Crucible also saw the funny side of it as a wave of laughter travelled around the arena.

Fans took to social media to react, with one person writing: “I hope they make the insects start paying next year!”

Another quipped: “It’s like an episode of Family Guy .”

Stephen Maguire admitted he ATE a fly earlier in the tournament after picking it off the table mid-match against David Gilbert.

He said: “It was just a fly. I spat it out when nobody was looking.”

And Stuart Bingham was forced to catch a fly with his bare hands mid-frame during his semi-final against Jones last week.
