Haaland, 23, copped a lot of flak for his fiery reaction to being replaced by manager Pep Guardiola.

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane the forward acted like a “spoilt child” when he was hooked by his gaffer.

But former England captain Alan Shearer dismissed that claim – and said Haaland had every right to be annoyed with his manager Pep Guardiola.

He told the Rest is Football podcast: “I loved it. Why shouldn’t he be fuming?

“I would be fuming, absolutely raging.

“You’re on four goals and you’ve got ten or 15 minutes left? I would be exactly the same as him.

“He is on a high, flying, has had criticism, has four and is back in the groove.

“I loved it. I have no issue or problem with that at all. I get how he feels.”

Haaland was replaced by Julian Alvarez in the 82nd minute – and just three minutes later the Argentine scored his team’s fifth goal of the day.

Guardiola said of Norway international’s reaction to being subbed: “He’s a little bit frustrated, but I understand.

“He was frustrated with the referee [Craig Pawson]. With the long balls sometimes they push him and he is pulled.

“Happy for his performance and his exceptional goals, really pleased for him.”

Haaland’s finding of his shooting boots comes at a crucial time for City, who are a point behind Arsenal – although they do have a game in hand on the Gunners.

Guardiola said: “Erling is back to business. Penalties are a guarantee but the second [header] and fourth [curler] were unbelievable.

“To come back to his best form, he needs time.”

City’s game in hand on Arsenal will see them visit the North Londoners’ bitter rivals Tottenham on May 14.
