AFTER months of training, thousands of people will run the London Marathon on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Here is everything you need to know on how to track the runners and the route.

How to track London Marathon runners

You can easily track London Marathon runners online.

The best way to track a runner is with the official London Marathon 2024 app, which is available for Android and Apple.

If you are supporting someone you can use the app to:

Track your family member or friend

Make a donation to their chosen cause

Send a Belief Booster

Keep up-to-date with the Elite Leaderboard

The Belief Booster sends a message to a runner to motivate them.

By typing in a message in the app it will be appear on the big screen at the halfway point and on the finish point on The Mall.

What is the London Marathon route?

The route of the London Marathon has not changed since 1981 and follows the capital’s landmarks.

It starts at Blackheath and ends at The Mall.

Runners will pass landmarks such as Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Canary Wharf, The London Eye and Buckingham Palace.

When does the London Marathon start and end?

The London Marathon starts at 9.05 am for the elite wheelchair racers, followed by the elite women at 9.25 am.

At 10 am the elite men start and mass race begins.

There is an official cut-off time, which is eight hours after the last participant crossed the start line at 11.30 am.

The marathon is set to end at 7.30 pm, whether people make it over the finish line or not.

In 2023, runners finished with an average time of 4hr 6 mins.

The elite male runners will aim for a finish time of 2 hours, while elite women could finish in 2hr 10-20 mins.

The ballot for the London Marathon 2025 is open until Friday, April 26, 2024.

How to watch the London Marathon

The race will be shown across BBC platforms.

BBC One begins their coverage at 8.30 am until 2 pm on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

From 2 pm until 3 pm BBC Two takes over.

It is also possible to livestream the marathon for free on the BBC Sport website and on iPlayer from 1 pm until 6 pm.
