Liverpool vs Tottenham: Reds take on Ange’s men in huge Premier League showdown at Anfield – team news, kick-off time

LIVERPOOL must beat Tottenham on Sunday if they are to keep their feint title hopes alive.

The Reds go into the weekend five points adrift of leaders Arsenal, who could end their title charge with a win if Jurgen Klopp’s side drop points.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ chances of a top four finish have faded in recent weeks after three consecutive defeats.

Ange Postecoglou’s side now sit seven points behind Aston Villa but do have a game in hand.

Another loss on Sunday will leave the door open for Manchester United and Newcastle to close the gap to them, though.

Spurs claimed a controversial 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in September.

The match was marred by a VAR error which wrongly disallowed a Liverpool goal before Joel Matip’s stoppage time own goal.

Both Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were sent off as the Reds ended the match with nine men.

What is their form like?

Liverpool have won just one of their last four Premier League matches to all but end their title hopes.

However, the Reds’ recent loss to Crystal Palace is their only league defeat at Anfield this season.

Prior to that setback, Liverpool had been unbeaten in eight matches.

Spurs are at risk of losing four consecutive league matches in a row for the first time since suffering six defeats in a row in 2004.

They head to Anfield after being beaten by Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea in their last three.

Postecoglou has also picked up just two wins from their last 11 away matches in the Premier League.

What is the team news and any injuries to worry about?

Virgil van Dijk is a doubt for Liverpool, whilst the match comes too early for Diogo Jota to return.

Conor Bradley is back in contention for selection, but Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara remain sidelined.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has revealed Spurs have no “significant” injury news following Thursday’s loss to Chelsea.

Several players are “feeling the effects of the game”, though.

Six players remain out injured including Timo Werner and Ben Davies.

Who will be the star men?

Despite his touchline spat with Klopp last week, Mohamed Salah is expected to return to the starting line-up on Sunday.

The forward has once again been a key man for Liverpool this season and is set to stay at Anfield beyond the summer.

Salah goes into the clash with Spurs with 17 goals and nine assists in the Premier League this term.

As for Spurs, captain Son Heung-min has an impressive recent record against Liverpool, scoring in his last four league meetings with the Reds.

Only Jamie Vardy has scored in five consecutive league matches against Liverpool.

Son is set to make his 300th Premier League appearance on Sunday, becoming the third Tottenham player to do so.

The 31-year-old has scored 16 league goals this season, adding nine assists as well.

What have the managers said?

On facing an out of form Spurs, Klopp told reporters: “I understand people don’t think it is a great moment for them but you can always see the clear footballing idea.

“We will have to be prepared for that and have to defend compact otherwise they just play through. They have a very good footballing idea.”

Discussing how far Spurs are from challenging for the title, Postecoglou said: “We’re a long way off but it doesn’t mean we can’t challenge next year.

“I think in terms of the team I want us to be, we’re a fair way off, but I am not dismissing the fact that we have to be competitive and challenge for success every year I am here. I am not going to dismiss any year as just a building year.”
