How Pochettino, Tuchel, McKenna and Frank’s records compare as they make shortlist to replace Ten Hag at Man Utd

IT seems all-but confirmed that Erik ten Hag will not be part of Manchester United’s future.

Reports earlier today emerged suggesting the Dutchman would be sacked regardless of whether he beats Manchester City to lift the FA Cup on Saturday.

Consequently, rumours on who the club’s new co-owners, Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will appoint as his successor have been rampant.

Four names in particular have risen to the top of the agenda: Kieran McKenna, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank.

Each have their own merits and demerits that will have to be considered before any appointment is made.

Below we take a look at how the four coaches compare.

In terms of games played the most experienced of the bunch is Pochettino with 649 games managed.

Fellow ex-Chelsea boss Tuchel is next with 613 games, with Frank managing 483 games and McKenna giving up something by way of experience with 131 games.

In terms of win rate, Tuchel marginally comes out on top with 57.26 per cent, just 0.01 per cent higher than McKenna’s 57.25 per cent win rate.

Pochettino has then won 48.69 per cent of his games, while Frank has won 45.13 per cent.

One thing Man Utd bosses are judged is their ability to win trophies.

So what about the candidates respective cabinets?

Well in this regard their is a clear winner with Tuchel.

The German has won the Champions League, Club World Cup and Uefa supercup with Chelsea, back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and a domestic French Cup double with Paris Saint-Germain.

He won the Bundesliga in his first season with Bayern Munich and won the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund back in 2017.

Despite his list of accolades, his failure to guide Bayern to any trophy this season has raised questions over the 50-year-old’s pedigree.

Pochettino is next in this list, with three trophies to his name from PSG.

The 52-year-old guided Tottenham to the Champions League final for the first time in their history and also had Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final this season, losing both.

Both McKenna, 38, and Frank, 50, are yet to lift any trophies.

However, Frank is yet to manage a dominant team, while McKenna’s back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League with Ipswich more than make up for a lack of trophies.

Another key trait for Man Utd bosses is style, so how do each of these bosses like to play?

Tuchel has favoured a 4-2-3-1 at Bayern this season, however, we know from his time at Chelsea he is equally happy to adopt a 3-4-3 formation if it better suits his team.

Pochettino and McKenna are both advocates of the 4-2-3-1 formation, which this Man Utd squad are familiar with.

Finally, Frank has also shown his flexibility since joining Brentford, switching between a 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 system throughout.
