Who is Jason Tindall?

Jason Tindall, born on November 15, 1977, is an English professional football manager and former player.

Tindall is currently the assistant manager at Newcastle United.

During his youth career, the former footballer showed early promise, playing for Senrab FC, Arsenal and Charlton Athletic.

As a defender during his playing days, Tindall spent the majority of his senior career at ACF Bournemouth.

The former footballer has also played for Weymouth.

Tindall played almost 200 games for Bournemouth, before retiring as a player in 2011 – however, his love for the sport didn’t end there.

After hanging up his boots, Tindall went on to pursue a managerial career.

What clubs has Jason Tindall managed?

In 2007, Tindall was appointed as Player-manger of Weymouth, but was sacked a year later after a 2007–08 season record of only three wins.

After his exit from Weymouth, Tindall was appointed as assistant manager to Jimmy Quinn at Bournemouth in 2008.

Following Quinn’s departure from the club, Eddie Howe was promoted to Caretake Manager, before becoming the permanent manager with Tindall as his assistant.

In 2020, Howe left the club by mutual consent and Tindall took over as manager on a temporary basis.

One week after Howe’s departure, Tindall was appointed as manager of Bournemouth on a permanent basis, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. 

However, the former footballer was sacked in 2021 after performances ‘fell well below expectations.’

Tindall has also been Howe’s No 2 at Burnley’s Turf Moor and now St James’ Park.

How does Jason Tindall know Eddie Howe?

Prior to joining forces in the dugout, Jason Tindall first crossed paths with Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe in 1998, when the pair were team-mates at Bournemouth.

Howe previously explained: “We didn’t really have a relationship. We’re really different people.

”But there’s a force when we come together that’s really powerful.”

Often spotted shaking the opposition gaffer’s hand before Howe and grinning widely at the front of every team snap, those behind the posts accuse Tindall of hogging the limelight.

But the account’s followers sky-rocketed followers thanks to his shenanigans amid the Toon’s pursuit of Champions League qualification.

So much so that his Wikipedia page was changed to say: “Jason James Tindall (born 15 November 1977) is an English professional football manager and former player, who is currently the center of attention at Newcastle United.”

Following his viral moment, Tindall, also nicknamed ”Mad Dog” by fans, said he was happy to take the stick.

He said: ”It did make me laugh when I found out about the nickname ‘Mad Dog’.

“The haters love to hate but it just makes me laugh.

“It’s a compliment to Newcastle — it’s a rival a lot of other clubs don’t want. I’m thick-skinned enough now not to take anything personally.

“A lot of people like to hate and there’s a lot of jealousy out there.

“A lot of people don’t like Newcastle challenging at the top.

“Long may that continue, whether the stick does or not, who knows but there’s been a lot of love from Newcastle fans.”

Also responding to the meme, Manager Howe said that he had no issue with Tindall’s “eye for the camera”.

He explained: “I’ve spent the last half an hour laughing with him. 

“It’s crazy how social media can create these things.

“He’s a good-looking guy so when people take pictures of him he gives off a good smile! 

“I’ve heard he gets called ‘Mad Dog’ and I’ve started calling him it too. 

“He’s an energetic personality, definitely more extroverted than I am, but that’s why we work. At his core, he’s a serious coach.”

Howe also said he “encourages” Tindall to be active throughout matches.

He added: “To understand his role you have to go back to where we started, which gives context to the reason he is in those situations. 

“We started with no money with no real facilities and it was just the two of us. 

“We did everything together. You name it, we did it. We were a partnership. We would travel five hours in a car together to watch the opposition.

“It was just the two of us and we’ve never changed that approach.”
