Unemployed ex-England star, 32, in limbo as Premier League transfer offer withdrawn despite stunning pre-season

BURNLEY have withdrawn the contract offer they made to former England ace Andros Townsend.

The winger, 32, has been training with the newly promoted Clarets after leaving Everton last season and did enough to earn a short – term deal.

However boss Vincent Kompany said the club made it clear it was dependent on which players they signed and the recovery of their injured stars.

The Turf Moor chief said: “We initially made sure we had terms agreed with Andros – so we did offer him a deal.

“But it was pending on a couple of things mainly where the recruitment was going for us and also the recovery of some of the players that we had that were injured.

“So it was quite transparent in that sense.

“He was great for the dressing room but in terms of what we already had in the building and the players we also wanted to bring in, it didn’t make sense for us to complete it.”

Meanwhile the Clarets are on the brink of signing Aston Villa midfielder Aaron Ramsey – who would be Kompany’s ninth signing of the summer.

Burnley splashed the cash to sign England Under-21 hero James Trafford from Manchester City in a £19million deal.

Their biggest spend is on Swiss forward Zeki Amdouni, who was announced using a Teletubbies clip.

The Championship winners have a creative team behind transfer announcement videos.

Kompany also got his hands on Sander Berge today – signed from fellow promotion side Sheffield United.
