Under-fire Southampton boss Nathan Jones launches into bizarre rant comparing himself to best managers in Europe

NATHAN JONES claimed he was one of the best managers in Europe after suffering another defeat with Southampton.

The Welshman took over as Saints boss in November but has won just one out of seven Premier League games in charge.

His side were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Brentford on Saturday, leaving Southampton bottom and three points off safety.

After the game Jones admitted he has compromised on certain values since taking charge.

He said: “I’ve compromised certain principles because of personnel, but also the way people want to play — because of fans.

“I’ve been very successful playing a real fluid style, at Luton we were a real aggressive front footed side.

“Statisically there weren’t better than me around Europe in terms of clean sheets, defending the box, balls in the box, xG, all those things.

“I’ve had to compromise certain things and I won’t do that again.”

Southampton fans slammed Jones during the Bees defeat with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning”.

The 49-year-old accepted the criticism but vowed not to veer away from his own philosophy again.

He added: “Fans are entitled to their own opinion and I’ve got broad shoulders, so I will take everything on myself. Now I will live and die by my own philosophy.

“I look at myself in the mirror and, to be honest, I can be better.”
