Ryder Cup star Viktor Hovland swears live on TV after cruising to opening day victory in the fourballs

NORWEGIAN golf star Viktor Hovland struggled to control his excitement after leading Europe to a 4-0 win in the Friday fourballs.

Hovland nailed an excellent chip from the fringe of the first green to give himself and Ludvig Aberg an advantage in their match against Americans Brian Harman and Max Homa this morning.

And the Scandinavians did not look back as they cruised to a victory at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.

Hovland could not conceal his excitement afterwards as he accidentally let slip a swear word on live television.

The world No4 told Sky Sports: “It wasn’t the most ideal spot, but I knew it was gettable and it’s just one of those things.

“You hit a good shot and it goes in and you just lose your s***. That was a good start we just kept the hammer down.

“(The crowd) was such a big difference compared to Whistling Straits. Normally I just keep my head down and play, but I’m trying to get the crowds going and just use them because they want you to play well and they want to support you.

“It was such a good start and we’re going to keep it going.”

Aberg added: “The crowds have been unbelievable here today and we could really feel their support and that’s what we need to keep winning points here in Rome. It was a lot of fun today.”

Europe are currently leading the USA 4-0 in Rome.

Hovland hit an amazing hole-in-one during a practise session on Thursday.

The Norwegian was at hole five on the short par four when he fired his ball straight onto the green and into the target.
