Paul Rowley billed as NRL coach of the future after Salford commitment

PAUL Rowley has been touted as a future NRL coach after turning down the chance to cross Super League and Hull FC.

The Salford boss turned down an approach from the Black and Whites to replace Tony Smith in the week.

But assistant Krisnan Inu believes he is that good, he can take a team Down Under – even though he cannot understand what all the fuss is about.

He said: “I could honestly say he’s one of those coaches that could easily coach back home.

“He’s very intelligent away from rugby, which helps with it. Adding that to his knowledge of the game makes him a very good coach.

“I never spoke to Rowls. He rang me hoping I didn’t go back to Sydney, I was going to take him with me!

“The players were more worried about me leaving to coach junior rugby league at Cabramatta. They were ringing me to come to Sydney with me. No-one’s been speaking about Hull here.

“I didn’t ask him anything, that was his business and was in his control. Whatever happened was up to Rowls, no-one else.”

Rowley’s decision is seen as a real statement of intent as Salford wait for the city council’s stadium deal to go through – SunSport understands the latest estimate is June.

For Inu, however, it is very much business as usual.

He added: “When the club made a statement, I still didn’t understand why they did. I still don’t get it. They didn’t need to be excited as he wasn’t going anywhere.

“But he’s a local boy and I didn’t see him moving any time soon. There’s no reason to celebrate, though, as he was always here. I don’t know why everyone’s making a big fuss.

“He hasn’t touched anything on his desk. Everything’s sat where it was last week – no changes here but the club has a big future and they see Paul being a big part of that.”
