Patrick Bamford reveals terrifying moment Leeds fans confronted him at his house leaving his fiancee shaken

LEEDS striker Patrick Bamford has revealed fans confronted him at his house after he missed a penalty, an ordeal that left his fiancee feeling “unsafe”.

The incident occurred after the English striker, 30, missed a spot kick in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle in May of last season.

Bamford‘s penalty was saved by Nick Pope in the 28th minute when Leeds were 1-0 up.

He had previously deleted his Twitter account due to waves of abuse from Leeds supporters.

This involved attacks on his family members – including his daughter who was born in 2022.

But what unfolded following the Newcastle game led to Bamford’s fiancee, Michaela Ireland, terrified in her own home.

Speaking on the My Mate’s a Footballer podcast, he said: “As I turn up the drive to get in I can’t even cross the gate, there’s two cars [blocking it].

“I went to put my window down. As I did, they put their windows up and just stared at me. Then the gate opened because my dad had opened it and they drove off.

“I think it was a culmination of the last few weeks. I took a lot of flak for it. The way they expressed it was crazy.

“It goes from conversations with David [Bamford’s sports psychologist] about sorting out how I’m feeling to then I’ve got to deal with [the fact] Michaela doesn’t feel safe in her own home.

“I rang him literally straight after that happened. He was like ‘How do you feel?’

“I said ‘I’m not upset about the abuse, I’m angry that someone’s come up to the house’. The club ended up putting security on the house for the night.”

Bamford scored four Premier League goals in 28 games last season as Leeds were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the campaign.

But Daniel Farke’s men are in contention to return to the top flight next season as they sit third in the Championship, just one point adrift of the automatic promotion places.

Bamford has scored three league goals so far this term.
