My dad was linked with shock UFC 300 return, but I’m making my own way in a completely different sport

UFC 300 was rumoured to feature the returns of several former champions.

The likes of Ronda Rousey and Georges St-Pierre were heavily linked with shock comebacks at this weekend’s historic Las Vegas card.

And so was former heavyweight champion and current WWE superstar Brock Lesnar.

Rumours of a return for the 46-year-old didn’t come as a surprise as Lesnar headlined UFC 100 in 2009 and made a shock comeback at UFC 200 in 2016.

Lesnar, however, has shown no sign of ever wanting to fight again and seems to be focused solely on wrestling and being a dad.

And one of his four children is a high-flying college athlete.

Mya Lynn Lesnar is a track and field star at Colorado State University, where he competes in the shot put.

And to say the 22-year-old has inherited her father’s athletic prowess would be an understatement.

Mya is an absolute powerhouse of an athlete and has smashed all sorts of records during her time at Arizona State University and CSU.

She shattered the long-standing women’s shot put record at the Mines Alumni Classic last December 2023 with a throw of 18.50 metres.

Mya recorded her best-ever throw in February when she hurled the shot put a whopping 19.10 metres at the Mountain West Championship.

And just last month, she followed in her father’s footsteps by becoming a NCAA Division 1 champion.

Mya became Colorado State’s first-ever women’s indoor track and field national champ with a throw of 18.53m.

It’s clear that the super athletic Mya could excel in any sport she chooses.

And although she’s followed in her dad’s footsteps by becoming a NCAA champ, she likely won’t further emulate him by competing in MMA.

Brock retired from mixed martial arts in February 2017, seven months after his UFC 200 showdown with Mark Hunt.

‘The Next Big Thing’ won the fight via unanimous decision, the result was overturned to a No Contest after it emerged that Lesnar had tested positive for a banned substance.

Lesnar’s retirement, however, didn’t stop talk of him strapping on his gloves one more time for UFC 300, a scenario Dana White was quick to shut down.

The UFC’s president and CEO told Sports Illustrated: “I think Brock’s done.

“I don’t think he’ll ever come back.”

White wasn’t surprised to see Lesnar, Rousey and St-Pierre linked with octagon returns, saying: “I get why everybody asks.

“I love that everybody loves them like that, and with so much passion. I do, too.

“But they’re definitely not coming back for UFC 300.”
