Frank Lampard REJECTS return to management after Chelsea legend held talks over international role

FRANK LAMPARD will NOT be the next Canada manager after ruling himself out of the international vacancy, according to reports.

It was revealed earlier this month that the Chelsea legend was in the frame to take the job.

But The Telegraph now understand that, following initial talks, Lampard believes the role “does not represent the right opportunity”.

The former England midfielder, 45, has been out of work since an unsuccessful caretaker stint with Chelsea concluded at the end of last season.

Canada had listed him as one potential name to lead them into the 2026 World Cup – which they are co-hosting alongside USA and Mexico.

But the ex-Everton coach will not fill the position as he continues to patiently wait for the perfect fit.

Speaking about his return to management, Lampard said: “I’m enjoying being with the family and looking to get back at some point.

“Hopefully something comes up that feels right for me, I’m keen to get working again but as I reiterate, I’m enjoying family life.

“It’s an intense job so when you’re out of it, it’s nice to appreciate being around all my children.

“You love the job. you understand the rigours of it in the modern day. I’ve enjoyed all the clubs I’ve worked with. They’ve all been big challenges for different reasons.

“I enjoy working with players, improve players and the team, so let’s see what comes.”

Lampard was seen watching England training last month as Gareth Southgate‘s men prepared for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

He was also spotted at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s clash with Fulham back in January.

Lampard’s best managerial achievements include getting Derby into the play-offs in 2019, before they were beaten by Aston Villa in the final.

He also got Chelsea into the top four and reached the 2020 FA Cup final which they lost to Arsenal.

He narrowly avoided relegation with Everton but was sacked the following year after a dismal run of results – his last permanent role.
