In an evaluation of the nation’s capital transformative project, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the strides achieved in the Abuja light rail venture.

He assured stakeholders and the press yesterday that the scheduled delivery on May 29 remains a sacred commitment.

The minister’s declaration followed a meticulous on-site inspection of the dynamic construction unfolding along access roads leading to the Metro Train Station in the Central Area, extending all the way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The stations visited by the Minister were Wupa near Idu and Bassanjiwa close to the airport, which revealed tangible progress.

Wike speaking with journalists took them through the intricate details of the ongoing developments, he emphasized the critical role of these access roads in ensuring seamless connectivity between the communities and the upcoming rail system.

“If we do not create accessible routes to the train stations, the very essence of the project is defeated,” he stated.

The minister, a former governor of Rivers State, acknowledged the gravity with which the contractors, notably the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Limited, approached the monumental task.

“It’s a major project to reduce the city’s vehicular congestion, and they are working day and night to meet our commitment,” he remarked, outlining the potential impact on easing traffic influx.

Addressing concerns over financial backing, Wike asserted that the FCT Administration stands fully prepared, having secured funding from diverse sources to ensure the timely completion of this transformative rail project.

Responding to queries about security challenges, the minister assured the public that significant improvements have been witnessed in the territory, guaranteeing a secure environment for the diligent workers pushing the boundaries of progress on the ground.
