Fans joke it’s ‘like flexing a tenner to Elon Musk’ as they spot what Man City did before Real Madrid loss

MANCHESTER CITY were slammed after “flexing” their Champions League trophy to record winners Real Madrid.

City hosted Real on Wednesday in the second leg of their quarter-final clash at the Etihad following last week’s dramatic 3-3 draw in Madrid.

Real Madrid eliminated City and will challenge for their 15th Champions League titlePA

And before the two European giants even kicked a ball, the Citizens put their first ever Champions League trophy on full public display in the stadium for all to see.

But that didn’t sit well with many fans who were left cringed as they insisted this would never work against Los Blancos, who count a staggering 14 European titles throughout their illustrious history.

The situation became even more awkward after Pep Guardiola‘s men were dumped out of the competition to end their hopes of a second consecutive Treble triumph after a heartbreaking loss on penalties.

Fans stormed social media to slam City‘s botched effort to play mind games with the most successful club in Champions League history – and they didn’t pull any punches.

One fan tweeted: “Like me flexing a tenner to Elon Musk.”

Another commented: “This makes losing even more embarrassing for them.”

A third posted: “They’ve won it 14 times. This was pathetic.”

This fan said: “Small club mentality, got 14 ffs..”

And that one wrote: “Wow i’m sure Real Madrid are very impressed, they’ve never seen a CL trophy before.”

City and Real played out a 1-1 draw after the hosts’ captain Kevin De Bruyne cancelled out Rodrygo’s early opener.

That forced a penalty shootout that the reigning Premier League champions lost 4-3 after Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic missed from the spot.
