Burkina Faso gets another President

Captain Ibrahim Traore, Newly appointed President of Burkina Faso

Captain Ibrahim Traoré was on Wednesday appointed president of Burkina Faso.

 His appointment came less than a week after a coup took place in the West African country,second in less than nine months.

“The President of the Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration (MPSR) will serve as Head of State and Supreme Commander of the National Armed Forces. Traore has been named as the guarantor of the independence of the judiciary.

In a circumstance that the President is unable to act, his powers are transferred by the First Vice-President, and also by the Second Vice-President”, the spokesperson for the Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration (MPSR),Captain Kiswendsida Farouk Azaria Sorgho, said on the country’s national television. 

The west African country’s was in chaos, when Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba — who had seized power in January — relinquished power through a coup, last week, by a new leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
