Alfie Haaland hits back at fierce rival Roy Keane after ex-Man Utd star called Erling ‘League Two player’ in shock rant

It all started in 1997 when Alfie accused Keane of diving when he had in fact torn his ACL.

Keane, vowing revenge, eventually got it in the 2001 Manchester derby, when he seriously injured Haaland’s knee, effectively ending his playing career.

Keane has vowed to never apologise, and Alfie has said he will never forgive Keane.

Keane appeared to re-open the feud last month when he said that while Erling Haaland is a fine goalscorer, he had the hold up play of a “League Two footballer”.

Keane’s criticism of Haaland was severe, saying after Manchester City‘s draw with Arsenal: “The levels of his general play is so poor and not just today. I think laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be. In terms of in front of goal, he’s the best in the world.

“But his general play for such a player is so poor. Not just today, he has to improve.

“He’s almost like a League Two player, that’s how I look at him. His general play, it has to improve and it will do over the next few years.”

And now Alfie has broken his silence on the criticism of his son.

He told ViaPlay football: “Then you have the background of Keane and other experts, who may have a slightly different agenda.

“They probably think it’s a bit okay to come up with that (the criticism). But the team wins, and Erling is still top scorer, so it can’t have been that bad.”

Haaland bounced back from the criticism against Luton today, scoring a goal and registering one assist in the game.

The Norwegian now has 20 goals and six assists in 26 Premier League games this season.

Today’s goal contributions take his City total to 83 goals and 16 assists in his 91 appearances for City.
