He asked the ref to intervene as the game was briefly halted

The superstars played out a thrilling first snooker session, with the scores levelled at 4-4 ahead of tonight’s resumption.

But there was plenty of drama abound as the match was briefly halted during the eighth frame.

While Jones battled to keep his lead, he appeared to be distracted by something in the crowd.

As he went to take a shot, Jones stopped before looking up into the distance.

He turned to the referee, who immediately said: “Yes I can see it and I’m trying to work out where it’s coming from.”

The ref then began scanning the crowd as a commentator said: “There’s a bit of noise from somewhere.”

However, the situation quickly resolved itself.

The ref continued: “It must be off someone’s watch or jewellery. It’s OK now.”

Jones continued to look worried as he chalked his stick.

But with the problem seemingly dealt with, he resumed his position over the table before firing away.

Unfortunately for Jones, he was unable to take a fifth frame in the opening session.

Trump showed his class to ensure they remained equal at 4-4, with play resuming at 7pm.

In the other quarter-final being played at the same time, David Gilbert took a 7-1 lead over Stephen Maguire.

The afternoon sessions then saw Kyren Wilson face John Higgins, while Stuart Bingham was tasked with taking down Ronnie O’Sullivan.
