Worried Man Utd looking to hire ’emerging talent scout’ amid fear academy isn’t churning out top quality youngsters

BOSSES at Manchester United are looking for a new “emerging talent” expert.

The club are worried about fewer players coming through their ranks and have advertised for a scout to focus on 17-20 year olds.

It has been several years since the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay broke through as academy players.

Hannibal Mejbri has begun to work his way into the side after several impressive performances under Erik ten Hag.

But the lack of homegrown players developed remains a concern for the Red Devils.

Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, McTominay, Mason Mount, Rashford and Jadon Sancho are the eight homegrown players in their registered 25-man squad.

However, only Evans, McTominay and Rashford came through United’s academy.

And the first team could do with a hand from some younger faces after a torrid start to the season.

Man Utd were beaten 1-0 at home by Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

It means they have lost four of their opening seven Premier League games.

After the game, Ten Hag said: “I understand fans are expecting a win and we didn’t win and we lost.

“Of course it is a concern, we have to be more consistent, this is not the demand for Manchester United. The demand is we get a row of wins and get into a series. We have to do better than now.

“I can give you reasons but you will explain it as an excuse and there are no excuses, we have to win.”
