Win a share of £150,000 with Tote placepot horse racing tips for Ascot’s Shergar Cup

SUN RACING’s tipster Templegate is back with his Placepot picks for Ascot this Saturday – as Tote boost their pool to a sweet £150,000.

Tote guarantee a pot of £100,000 for one meeting every day but boost it for one Saturday meeting – the Shergar Cup this week – plus special events on the calendar – including the upcoming Ebor Festival at York.

The Placepot is a bet where you select a horse to be placed in the FIRST SIX races of any meeting.

You can pick more than one horse in a race – you just multiply the number of selections in each race to calculate your total stake.

LEG 1: EXISTENT, INTRINSIC BOND

EXISTENT ran up to his best when a close second at Glorious Goodwood last week and he’s 2lb lower here. Some cut suits and he has the benefit of Tom Marquand on board which can make the difference.

Matthew Chadwick has a winning chance on his first Ascot ride since 2012 after INTRINSIC BOND scored over course and distance here 14 days ago. This trip suits and an 8lb rise may not be enough.

LEG 2:  ZOFFEE

ZOFFEE has had time to recover from a rare blip in the Northumberland Plate and looks ideal for this. He ran well in the Ascot Staks on the back of a neck second in the Chester Cup off just 1lb lower. He stays, goes on any ground and has Frankie on board.

LEG 3: SCAMPI, PRIDE OF PRIORY

SCAMPI goes back up to his best trip after a decent effort in the tough John Smith’s Cup at York last time. He handles this ground and is still on a fair mark.

PRIDE OF PRIORY won this nicely last year and is back off the same weight with Frankie up top. He came back from a break with a solid third at Ripon and is a big danger.

LEG 4THE WIZARD OF EYE, PEROTTO

THE WIZARD OF EYE looks a big price having come down 2lb despite a good run on his handicap debut in the Golden Mile at Goodwood. He’s spent most of his career in Group contests but handled the big field well and Tom Marquand on board today is a plus.

PEROTTO has Bauyrzhan Murzabayev in the saddle but he’s ridden plenty of winners in France with Andre Fabre among his supporters so he’s no mug. His mount was a place behind the tip at Goodwood where he didn’t seem at home on the track. He’ll be much happier here where he’s won before.

LEG 5: GOLDEN MOVE, RAJASTHAN

GOLDEN MOVE ran a belter when winning on handicap debut at Doncaster three Saturdays ago. He relished moving up to this distance and was running away from his rivas at the line. This is tougher but he should improve and a 5lb rise is fair.

RAJASTHAN came back from eight months off to land that win and hasn’t been clobbered for this handicap debut.

LEG 6: DARK TROOPER, QUINAULT

DARK TROOPER was an eyecatching winner at Haydock last time, coming from the back in testing ground to win with loads left in the tank. More rain would help his chances as he likes it testing but he’s scored in quicker conditions too and has more to offer under a 3lb penalty.

QUINAULT made it a brilliant six wins on the spin at Newmarket last time. He won a battle by a nose there and should be right in the hunt again despite a 7lb rise.
