Will Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler be announced at UFC 300 and will Notorious be in Vegas?

THE MMA world is awaiting official confirmation of Conor McGregor’s long-awaited comeback fight. 

The former two-division champion hasn’t set foot inside the octagon since shattering his left leg nearly three years ago.

McGregor, 35, was seemingly set to make his return against Michael Chandler late last year but UFC chiefs had other ideas for their poster boy. 

But the Irishman appears to be on course to throw down with the former three-time Bellator lightweight champion in the main event of UFC 303 on June 29. 

MMA’s top promotion has yet to officially announce the return of the Mac, who has been champing at the bit to get back in the cage for the last six months. 

The delay in announcing the bout has baffled both fighters and fans alike. 

The UFC have had ample opportunity to do so, although none bigger than the one they have this weekend. 

The MMA leader hosts its historic 300th pay-per-view event in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

The eyes of casual and avid fight fans alike will be firmly fixed on the T-Mobile Arena for UFC 300, which is a juggernaut of a card. 

A whopping 12 former or current interim or undisputed champions feature on the card, which is headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill.

So it would make all the sense in the world for the UFC to announce the return of the biggest star in the history MMA with the eyes of the entire world watching. 

There’s an argument to be made that a McGregor vs Chandler announcement could overshadow UFC 300. 

But the UFC would be missing an open goal if they didn’t announce – or at the very least tease – McGregor’s return. 

Fan favourite McGregor hasn’t graced the cage since breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

The injury saw the Dubliner suffer his third defeat in his last five octagon outings.  

McGregor hasn’t tasted victory in nearly FOUR-AND-A-HALF-YEARS, with his last win being his 40-second demolition of Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.
