Who is Pien Meulensteen? Meet the new Euro 2024 pundit for ITV & daughter of Sir Alex Ferguson’s former Man United coach

Who is Pien Meulensteen?

Pien Meulensteen is a Dutch-English sports broadcaster and TV presenter.

She is fluent in both Dutch and English.

The TV star began her broadcasting career at BBC Manchester whilst studying Broadcast Journalism at the University of Salford.

At 27 years old, Pien has worked for major broadcasters, including BBC Sport and Sky Sports.

She has covered a wide range of sports events and is rapidly becoming a prominent figure in the industry.

During the summer of 2022, Pien worked as a commentator on the Women’s Euros in England.

The following year she became the first female to commentate on a live Premier League match in Britain for Sky Sports.

That same year she won the One to Watch – On Air category at the British Sports Journalism Awards in London.

How is Pien related to Rene Meulensteen?

Pien Meulensteen is the daughter of former Manchester United assistant manager Rene.

He had two spells at Old Trafford, before leaving the club in 2013 following Sir Alex Ferguson‘s retirement. 

He is now the assistant manager for the Australian national team where he has been assistant to Graham Arnold.

As for Pein, she has also done work for her dad’s former club, working as a presenter for MUTV and commentating on women’s team matches.

Her background and family connection to football have enhanced her credibility and appeal as a sports presenter.

What will Pien Meulensteen’s role be at Euro 2024?

Pein will join Sam Matterface, Clive Tyldesley, Seb Hutchinson and Joe Speight as the lead commentators live from the stadiums.

ITV has the rights to the opening match of the competition which is Germany v Scotland on June 14.

There will also be bespoke content around the tournament, including mini-highlights of every fixture.

Matches shown on BBC One will also be streamed live on BBC iPlayer.
