Who holds the deadlift world record?
Deadlifting is a weight training exercise in which a loaded barbell or bar is lifted off the ground.
The sport helps people gain strength and muscle mass.
Each year, deadlifters all over the world compete to lift the heaviest weight and claim the deadlifting world record.
For a very long time, the record was held by the British boxer and media personality Eddie Hall.
His record in deadlifting 500 kg in 2016, put him in the Guinness World Records book.
In 2020, the Icelandic strongman Hafthor Bjornsson beat that record by 1kg, while deadlifting 501kg.
With that, he was classified as the holder of the record for the heaviest deadlift.

Born on 26 November 1988 in Iceland, Bjornsson was a lanky teenager at first, but always exercising and training.
He is also regarded as one of the strongest men alive.
In 2018, he became the first and only person to win three strongman competitions in one calendar year: World’s Strongest Man, Europe’s Strongest Man and Arnold Strongman Classic.
He appeared in 5 seasons of the show, in which his character held the nickname The Mountain.

How much has Eddie Hall deadlifted?
Before Bjornsson’s deadlifting record, the title was held by Staffordshire-born boxer, Eddie Hall.
Hall deadlifted 500kg in 2016, which at the time was the heaviest deadlift recorded.
He is not short of winning competitions either, whether they are international or national.
He has also won national titles such as England’s Strongest Man, UK’s Strongest Man and Britain’s Strongest Man, multiple times.
In March 2022, Hall and Bjornsson faced each other in a boxing match which was regarded as ‘The battle of the giants’.
