LIONEL SCALONI welled up as he described Argentina’s amazing support.

Argentina have been one of the most well backed teams at the tournament, with around 40,000 of their supporters claimed to be in Qatar.

While even many neutrals have been behind them as Lionel Messi bids to win the World Cup for the first time, in what will almost certainly be his final attempt.

Talking about his team’s incredible fans, boss Scaloni got a little tearful in an interview.

He said: “This team plays for the people.”

The 44-year-old then added through tears: “You’re making me emotional.

“People… leaving things aside to come, or at work.

“I wish. Hopefully we can bring them some joy.”

Even Ronaldo, a legendary figure and proud Brazilian, would enjoy seeing Messi lift the trophy – despite their countries being huge rivals.

He said: “I’m going to be honest, I can’t say I want Argentina to win, it would be lying.

“I wouldn’t be happy as a Brazilian.

“They all deserve it. Football is about playing and winning, nobody is going to give you anything. They all have a chance, of course.

“Argentina don’t play great football but they have an incredible desire.

“They all run a lot together, they all have that aggressiveness… and then they have Messi, who when he gets in the box is very decisive.

“Personally, I would be happy for him if he wins it.”
