A joint team of security operatives have taken over the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Rivers State to ensure adequate security.
The team comprising heavily armed security operatives drawn from the Department of State Security (DSS), the Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are on ground to forestall the breakdown of law and order at the Wednesday event.
Naija News understands the security team have mounted a perimeter at the entrance of the Dr. Obi Wali Conference Centre in Port Harcourt, the state capital and PDP party leaders have to identify delegates before access is granted to the venue.
Apart from the entrance, the security operatives are also patrolling the entire area with tracks and vans strategically located.
As at the time of filing this report, accreditation of delegates had already commenced as the race to choose the PDP candidate gets underway.
Governor Nyesom Wike who is a member of the PDP will complete his tenure in 2023 and he is already in the race for the presidential ticket of the party for the 2023 general elections.
