The Red Devils started the season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham in which summer-signing Joshua Zirkzee netted the winner.
The win was followed by defeats against Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool.
The poor start to the campaign follows a summer in which Ten Hag was kept on as manager despite mounting calls for him to be sacked.
The Daily Mail have claimed he has identified three areas that he wants his players to improve on.
He has called on the Man United squad to increase their aggression across the pitch to stop conceding soft goals.
This was evident in the defeat to Liverpool as the team lost the ball multiple times before the Reds found the target.
The second area that Ten Hag wants to see improve is the amount of ball the team has per game.
He believes that with more possession, the team will be able to control matches better.

Despite the defeats to Liverpool and Brighton, the Red Devils did improve their possession stats from the same fixtures last term.
Against Liverpool, Man United had 52.8 per cent, which is up from 38 per cent, while facing the Seagulls, they managed 51.8 per cent compared to 45.2 per cent.
Ten Hag will be keen to see the increased possession lead to more positive results now the international break is over.
The final area Ten Hag wants to improve is for players to be more area of their positions.
This was evident in the defeat to Brighton as Joao Pedro was unmarked as he headed in the winning goal in the dying moments.
The report claims that Ten Hag has been showing his squad video highlights in order for them to understand the importance of positioning.
It is hoped that this will help the team cut out mistakes and stop goals from being scored.
Ten Hag will see if the extra work has had an effect on his squad in their next Premier League fixture against Southampton.
