The best pool players in the world are involved along with a few wildcards, with some switching sports to show off their pool skills.

Roman Fury is one of those sportsmen, with the boxer facing Ahmad Taufiq of Brunei in the first round on Wednesday.

Fury, 27, has won all four of his professional boxing bouts, most recently defeating Martin Svarc on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou in March.

He will be swapping his gloves for a cue in Telford as he tests himself against a former world top 100 player in Taufiq.

Fury will be joined at the tournament by snooker star Stuart Bingham, who defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan in the World Snooker Championship quarter-final last week.

Bingham became snooker world champion in 2015 and has won six ranking events, and took up pool alongside his main profession last year.

He made his 9-ball debut at the European Open Pool Championship in 2023 where he was beaten by Skyler Woodward.

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney was also set to take part before pulling out of the tournament because of injury.

Deeney was set to play two matches, including a first-round clash against world number 31 Marc Bijsterbosch.

He was excited to take part and has always been a fan of the sport, often playing his former team-mates at the training ground during his playing career.
