Two Popular Presidential Candidates Demand Void Of Tinubu’s Victory

The presidential candidates of the (Action Alliance), Solomon Okangbuan, and his Allied Peoples Movement (APM) counterpart, Princess Chichi Ojei, have sought the nullification of the declaration of  Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The two presidential candidates made this known in separate petitions filed at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, in Abuja on Tuesday.

In the suits, Okangbuan and Ojei are respectively challenging the outcome of the presidential election on the grounds of alleged substantial non-compliance with the electoral laws as well as the guidelines of the INEC.

In his petition marked CA/PEPC/03/2023, Okangbuan claimed that he was excluded from the February 25 presidential election, based on which the exercise should be voided.

While in her suit marked CA/PEPC/04/2023, Ojei claimed that Tinubu was, at the time of the election, not qualified to contest the election by virtue of the provisions of sections 131(c) and 142 of the Constitution and section 35 of the Electoral Act 2022.

The petitioners are also asking the tribunal for an order cancelling the election and compelling INEC to conduct a fresh election in which Tinubu, his running mate, Kashim Shettima, and APC shall not participate.
