Transfer Window: Man United Defender, Tuanzebe Joins New Club On Loan

Manchester United has announced the departure of its defender, Axel Tuanzebe to Napoli.

Naija News understands that the Red Devils revealed in a statement on its official website on Saturday, that the 24-year-old joined the Serie A side on loan for the rest of the ongoing campaign.

The statement read: “Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has joined Serie A side, Napoli, on loan until the end of the 2021/22 season.

“The 24-year-old signed a new contract in the summer, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2023 with the option to extend by another year.

Tuanzebe had joined United Academy since age eight. The English player has just finished his third loan spell with Aston Villa, having previously played for the Midlands club in two Championship campaigns, Naija News understands.

The Congo-born player who can operate from centre-back and as a full-back will now have the opportunity to explore himself abroad for the first time, having joined up with Luciano Spalletti’s side.

Manchester United will be facing Aston Villa in the FA Cup game on Monday, January 10, Naija News reports.

Meanwhile, Brazilian international Philippe Coutinho has just joined Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season.

Coutinho reunites with his former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard at Villa Park, and returns to England four years after leaving Anfield for the Nou Camp for a club-record £146m.

Villa were understood to be one of two Premier League sides keen to sign Coutinho, who wanted to return to England and play regular football.

Coutinho, who featured 201 times and scored 54 goals for the Reds, has struggled to hold down a first-team place at the Nou Camp since joining in 2018.

The midfielder was loaned to Bayern Munich for the 2019-20 season and was part of the squad that lifted the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League trophies in 2020, playing 38 times in all competitions, Naija News reports.
