Tottenham 5 Shakhtar 1: Harry Kane scores FOUR then does lap of honour as Bayern transfer talk intensifies

HARRY KANE put talk of a move to Bayern Munich to one side as he scored FOUR goals in front of his adoring Tottenham fans.

The England captain has been the subject of three bids – the latest believed to be £86million – from German giants Bayern.

With just a year left on his Spurs deal, there is still a good chance the 30-year-old leaves for Bavaria this summer.

But all the speculation clearly did not impede his performance as Kane, who was named captain, helped down Shakhtar Donetsk in this friendly designed to raise funds for Ukraine.

The striker opened the scoring with a first-half penalty, then grabbed two more in a five-minute spell shortly after the break, via a header and a close-range finish, before making it four with a tap-in.

Kane was watched on by Micky van de Ven, the Dutch defender who is to undergo a medical at Hotspur Way on Monday as he wraps up a £43m switch from Wolfsburg.

The 22-year-old, dubbed the Bundesliga’s quickest defender last season, will no doubt be as desperate as all the watching supporters that Kane hangs around this summer.

Spurs were good value in this exhibition, dominating possession, creating chances and entertaining the crowd.

But Ange Postecoglou’s risky high line at the back looked vulnerable to long balls, so Van de Ven’s pace will be a most welcome addition.

Richarlison, the man who would likely step in if Kane leaves, missed the clash with a knock but should be back for Barcelona on Tuesday.

Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg started, despite Spurs being in talks with Atletico Madrid over a switch to La Liga.

But it was the two midfielders in front of the Dane who, barring Kane, stood out the most.

Maddison thrilled the fans with his skills – including one gorgeous double drag-back in Shakhtar’s box.

While youngster Pape Matar Sarr impressed with his energy and eye for goal as he went close three times in the first half.

How much can be taken from this clash is hard to tell, given Shakhtar’s side is a shadow of the one it was before Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. 

The fact that one of their stars, Manor Solomon, was on Spurs’ bench having joined for free summed up just how much, sadly, their team has changed.

While the friendly nature of this encounter was summed up in the 16th minute when legendary Shakhtar goalkeeper Andrii Pyatov, who made a couple of smart early stops to deny Kane, was treated to a guard of honour as he was subbed off for his last appearance.

Spurs took the lead on 38 minutes as Kane rattled home a spot-kick after Maddison had been tripped.

Yet Shakhtar hit back just before the break when Kevin Kelsy rose above Ben Davies – who was playing at centre-back – and powered a header into the corner.

Spurs made no changes at the break and were quickly back in front in a manner very similar to the one they conceded.

Maddison sent in a delicious cross that Kane headed down into the corner for a mouthwatering taste of what their partnership could be if the latter does not leave.

On 55 minutes, Kane had the matchball as Dejan Kulusevski played him with a pass that nutmegged a defender and the centre-forward slipped the ball past the keeper.

Spurs’ iconic No10 scored again with 11 minutes to go when firing in a rebound after sub Solomon had had a shot saved.

He was replaced by Dane Scarlett before the restart and came off to a standing ovation, plus another rendition – the fifth or sixth of the afternoon – of ‘Harry Kane, he’s one of our own’.

Spurs added a sublime fifth through Scarlett’s stunning turn-and-blast in the box with what turned out to be the final kick of the game.
Like Kane, 19-year-old Scarlett is a product of Tottenham’s academy.

If this is to be Kane’s last game, then it will be a fitting way for him to leave: Scoring a bucketful of goals and with his name reverberating lovingly around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After the game, Kane clapped the home fans as he walked around the pitch for a lap of honour and appeared to wave to his family in the stands.
