1. I Am The Most Prepared Presidential Aspirant – Osinbajo

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday described himself as the most prepared presidential aspirant ahead of the 2023 general election.

Osinbajo stated this during his visit to the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers as part of his consultations for the presidency.

According to the Vice President, he has the experience needed to pilot the affairs of the country.

2. 2023: We Will Reject Any Plan To Deny Igbo Presidency – Ohanaeze

The pan Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says it will reject any plan to deny the South East the chance to produce the next President in 2023.

Naija News reports that the organisation made this known in a communique released after addressing the Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo at its National Secretariat in Enugu State.

In the communique read by its President-General, George Obiozor, Ohanaeze warned southeast presidential aspirants against accepting the Vice Presidential slot of their political parties.

Obiozor insisted that the South East should be allowed to produce the next President of the country in 2023 in the interest of equity, justice and fairness.

3. 2023: You Have Only One Month Left To Conduct Primaries – INEC Warns Political Parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated to all political parties in Nigeria that they must conclude their primaries for the 2023 general elections latest by Friday, June 3, 2022.

INEC in a statement on Thursday by its National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye said the date will not be changed.

To this effect, all parties with the intention to participate in the 2023 general elections must have picked their candidates before the deadline set by INEC elapses, Naija News reports.

According to the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 general election previously released by INEC, parties are to hold primaries to pick their candidates between April 4 to June 3, 2022.

Reiterating the stand in Thursday’s statement, Okoye said the stand of the electoral body is in compliance with the Section 82 (1) of the Electoral Act 2022.

4. 2023: Jonathan Not The Best Candidate – Atedo Peterside

Nigerian economist, Atedo Peterside on Thursday disclosed that the level of acceptance of the former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has gone down ahead of the 2023 general elections.

According to Peterside, the approval ratings of Jonathan have dropped to 5% compared to the 54% he had during the 2011 presidential election.

Peterside stated this while speaking on Channels TV amid speculations that Jonathan may dump the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

He further stated that even though he voted for Jonathan in 2011, the former president does not have the skill to rule Nigeria in this era.

5. Osinbajo Picks APC Presidential Forms

The wait is over as Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo has picked the All Progressive Congress, APC, nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the party’s primaries.

A top member of his campaign team, Senator Kabiru Gaya picked up the forms on behalf of the nation’s number two citizen on Thursday, May 5, Naija News reports.

Recall that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) made known his presidential ambition last month.

Osinbajo has been touring the country to consult delegates ahead of the primaries which will hold at the end of this month.

6. Orji Uzor Kalu Reacts As Brother Dumps APC For New Party

The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed shock following the defection of his brother, Mascot Uzor Kalu, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Mascot dumped the APC to form a new political party, Action Peoples Party (APP).

Recall that Mascot Kalu was a former Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor and the APC candidate in the last by-election for the Aba North and Aba South federal constituency seats.

Reacting in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu stated that the leadership of the APC tried its best to prevent his brother from leaving.

While expressing surprise, the APC stalwart admitted that his brother was free to choose whatever association he wants to belong to.

7. Biafra: Shameless Liar Who Committed Genocide During #EndSARS Protest – IPOB Roasts Wike

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has described Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as a shameless liar who committed genocide during the infamous #EndSARS protest.

IPOB stated that Wike never supported the agitation for Biafra as he ordered the Nigerian Army to clampdown on innocent youths.

The pro-Biafra group recalled that the Rivers governor had described IPOB as a violent group that should stay away from the Southsouth State.

Naija News recalls that Wike had claimed that he supported IPOB’s Biafra agitation and not the group’s resort to violence.

According to him, no matter what people say he supports the agitation of the pro-Biafra group.

While recalling that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu once sang his praises, Wike said he was against the violence perpetrated by the group.

But in a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant of being the worse than “Biafran enemies.”

8. 2023: Tunde Bakare Picks APC Presidential Form

The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), Pastor Tunde Bakare on Thursday purchased the All Progressives Congress nomination and expression of interest forms.

Naija News had earlier reported that Bakare officially declared his intention to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari at the end of his tenure.

The cleric declared his presidential ambition during the virtual meeting unveiling Project 16 to Nigerians in the diaspora with the theme “The portrait of a new Nigeria”.

9. 2023 Presidency: APC Speaks On Asking Aspirants To Sign Withdrawal Letter

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to a report that it asked its presidential hopefuls to sign Form 18 attached to the procured Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

Naija News earlier reported that the APC directed the aspirants to sign the form tagged withdrawal letter before a Commissioner of Oath/Public Notary before it is submitted to the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdulahi Adamu.

In an interview with Guardian, APC Spokesman, Felix Morka, stated that the withdrawal letter attached to the procured presidential form is legal and constitutional.

Morka added that the withdrawal sheet is part of the presidential form and is in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Amendment Act 2022.

The APC spokesman explained that all the aspirants are not required to fill out the form except for those that will make the decision at some point to withdraw from the race.

10. N100m Is Not A Big Deal, It Is People’s Money – Akpabio

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has said that any serious presidential candidate should be able to cough out N100m.

Naija News reports that the N100m is the price set for the purchase of the All Progressive Congress, APC, expression of interest and nominations form. Many Nigerians have complained that such huge amount would simply aid corruption.

However, Akpabio has said that any serious presidential aspirant should be able to get N100m without visiting the bank.

He explained that the money is not the politicians’ money but those of the people supporting them.

Akpabio said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.
