Arise TV host, Rufai Oseni, has described the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) saga involving the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, as ridiculous.
Naija News reports that the NYSC status of Musawa has remained an intense media discussion in the past few days following her swearing-in as one of the 45 ministers of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The management of NYSC had confirmed the claim of Musawa still undergoing her national youth service, saying the Minister didn’t complete her service when she was first mobilized for the scheme in 2003.
Amidst the controversies trailing the issue since the inauguration of Ministers, the presidency has remained mum on the subject.
However, some critics have said Musawa is not qualified to be appointed minister as a serving NYSC member.
Reacting to the development, Oseni, in a post via Twitter, averred there is no problem with President Tinubu having a NYSC member as a minister.
However, it would be a double strike for Musawa to collect NYSC allowance and ministerial salary.
He tweeted, “If the president wants a NYSC member as Minister No problem but collecting alawe and Ministerial salary na double strike. Nigeria is a theatre of the absurd”
Musawa’s Appointment Should Be Part Of National Assignment
Meanwhile, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Rotimi Jacobs, has said the appointment of Hannatu Musawa as the Minister for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, should be regarded as part of her national assignment.
In an interview with The Punch, Jacobs said the minister must be paid the same allowances as other corps members and must participate in other activities.
Also speaking, a senior lawyer, Adegoke Rasheed (SAN), said the court might have to determine if her current position as a minister is an employment or appointment.
Rasheed stated that Musawa’s appointment is a form of service to the nation, saying that she might not be prosecuted for the matter at hand.
Adegoke stated that Musawa could be made to receive a corps member salary and not receive a minister’s salary.
