Templegate’s Tote placepot picks with £150,000 up for grabs on St Leger day at Doncaster

THERE is a guaranteed £150,000 up for grabs in the Tote placepot at Doncaster on Saturday.

The St Leger – the fifth and final British Classic of the season – is here and the Tote are celebrating by upping the ante for placepot punters.

Call Me Ginger is back in action on St Leger day

Our man Templegate has gone through the card and picked out his fancies for that bet below.

And don’t forget to take up the Tote’s brilliant new customer offer, where you can bet £5 and get £20 in free bets*.

St Leger day – Templegate placepot picks

LEG 1: Rosallion

ROSALLION should be too good for these rivals after an easy Listed win at Ascot last time.  He pulled well clear of the second who franked the form at Haydock last week. This trip with some cut in the ground is ideal and he can improve on just his third run.

TOTE: BET £5 GET £20*

LEG 2: Makanah, Kimngrace, Call Me Ginger

MAKANAH ran an absolute cracker when fourth in a blanket finish for a hot handicap at York last time. He is better drawn here and is effective at both 5f and 6f so will enjoy this in-between trip. This race could give an aspirin a headache but he should give a good account.

KIMNGRACE was a bit unlucky on the Knavesmire last time and has come down the weights. He likes this trip and goes on any ground so should run well.

Last year’s winner CALL ME GINGER is looking for a hat-trick after winning at Chester and Ascot. His mark is only 2lb higher than 12 months ago so he can have a big say.

LEG 3: Spycatcher, Sandrine

SPYCATCHER likes some cut in the ground and followed a Group 3 win in France with a close second at the highest level. He will have no issue with this slight step up in distance and looks the one to beat.

SANDRINE has loads of talent but can be hit and miss for no apparent reason. She was at her best in a first-time visor when third in the City Of York Stakes three weeks ago. A repeat of that would give her a major chance.

LEG 4: Continuous

CONTINUOUS looked perfect for the Leger when storming away from Gregory to win the Great Voltigeur at York last time. He enjoyed sitting off the mad pace set by Frankie that day and used his stamina to the full. Trainer Aidan O’Brien runs a couple of likely pacemakers here so he’ll get another good gallop and can take another step forward.

LEG 5: Symbol Of Light, Akhu Najla

SYMBOL OF LIGHT was just pipped after 17 months off on debut for Julie Camacho last time. He’s wisely been given time to get over that effort and should improve for this longer distance.

AKHU NAJLA looks ready for this distance after some solid efforts over a mile.

LEG 6: Deira Mile, God’s Window

DEIRA MILE went down in a tight finish on debut at Sandown last month despite running very green. He is certain to build on that encouraging start.

GOD’S WINDOW is a newcomer from the Gosdens who should make his mark in this open contest.
