Doncaster St Leger Festival day two – Friday 15th September

LEG 1: Circe, Morning Light

CIRCE is the clear pick of those with racecourse experience after a good debut third at Sandown 13 days ago. She enjoyed this trip and handled the bit of cut. Trainer Richard Hannon won this 12 months ago and has every chance again.

Ralph Beckett has plenty of debut winners and his MORNING LIGHT has the benefit of Ryan Moore on board. She is bred to enjoy this trip as a two-year-old.

LEG 2: War Rooms, Battle Cry

WAR ROOMS enjoyed himself when winning as he liked on debut over course and distance 50 days ago. Owen Burrows’ hope tanked along before drawing right away from his rivals. This is a hike in class but he can improve enough to win.

BATTLE CRY won a decent maiden at York last time and the Aidan O’Brien hope will be a threat if building on that, which seems likely.

LEG 3: Inquisitively, Big Evs

INQUISITIVELY looked a top prospect when taking a York Listed contest in style. She was always up with the sharp pace before engaging turbo boost to score by two lengths. William Buick stays on board, which is a plus, and there’s more to come.

BIG EVS is respected despite finding the Nunthorpe too much against older rivals last time. He had three lengths to spare when taking the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot before an equally impressive effort at Goodwood. He can bounce back from his poor Knavesmire run and looks the main danger.

LEG 4: Coltrane

COLTRANE ran right up to his best when winning the Lonsdale Cup at York last time. He travelled sweetly under Oisin Murphy before picking up well for a convincing success. He was a battling second in the Ascot Gold Cup so has no issue with this longer trip and he showed a liking for this track when winning this race 12 months ago.

LEG 5: Bague D’Or, Legendary Day

BAGUE D’OR was coming back from a long break when finishing second in a red-hot handicap at York last time. That was over 1m4f but his best efforts have come at this trip and he’s still on a fair weight. He’ll run a big race provided this isn’t coming too soon.

LEGENDARY DAY was a place behind the tip on the Knavesmire and is another who will enjoy this stiffer test.

LEG 6: Queen Emma, Cherry

QUEEN EMMA landed a smooth success over this trip on handicap debut at Goodwood last time. She ground down her rivals and a 6lb rise looks fair for William Haggas’ progressive filly. There’s The Door loves it soft so more rain would be ideal. She took a decent prize over 1m2f last time and this longer trip should hold no fears.

CHERRY is another who tasted success at Goodwood latest. She cleared right away from her rivals despite the tacky ground and looks another nice prospect. She was second over this course and distance in July.
