Seething Roy Keane reveals how he’d have dealt with Phil Foden as he slams Man Utd star for ‘taking a breather’

A FUMING Roy Keane has broken down how he’d have defended Phil Foden if he played for Manchester United today.

Foden shone for City, scoring two goals as his team came from a goal down to beat United in the Manchester derby 3-1.

Keane’s analysis came when he and Micah Richards were analysing Foden’s first goal, which saw him shift the ball past Lindelof and curl a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

Keane was disappointed that Foden was able to engineer the space to take the shot however.

The former United midfielder said: “United have a lot of players back here. I’ll be critical of the United defenders because they have the players back.

“But two or three players are just having a breather there. You’ve got Foden who we’ve seen do that many times this season cutting in and the players are just having a breather for that split second.

“You can’t do that against Foden! We’ve seen that before. When there’s a left footer cutting in like this people say it’s dangerous but when you’ve got bodies in there this is where you’ve got to switch on.

“You’ve gotta get out to the ball! You’ve gotta get out to Foden! We’ve spoke about an amazing player. He wants to get onto his stronger foot. Get out to him!

Richards concurred with Keane but said he had sympathy with Lindelof.

He said when he was a defender he favoured showing an attacker onto his weaker foot, but the problem with Foden is that he is strong with both.

Keane then said despite Foden being showed inside, someone should have got out to him and used his playing experience to break it down.

He said: “When I was a midfielder and I saw someone ome into my area I’m going, happy days! This is where I can go and nail somebody.”

He then said “there were two or three just sitting there, I mean” before he became too exasperated to talk and threw his arms up in the air.
