Ryder Cup hero Jon Rahm gets kiss from Wag Kelley Cahill as he fires Europe to huge lead

JON RAHM sealed the perfect Ryder Cup day with a kiss from his wife Kelley.

The Spaniard, 28, was on fire at Marco Simone as he helped Europe to a commanding 6½-1½ lead after day one in Rome.

Rahm produced a handful of incredible moments as he secured one-and-a-half crucial points – winning his foursomes 4&3 alongside Tyrrell Hatton and then snatching a tie in the fourballs with Nicolai Hojgaard.

The reigning Masters champion chipped in three times and hit the flag to almost nail a hole-in-one – the only blot on his copybook was his latest F-bomb slip-up on TV.

And he kept his composure under pressure one final time to deliver the goods on the 18th green of the fourballs, sinking an eagle putt to square the match against Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka.

Then he celebrated with a loving embrace and a peck from his glamorous partner.

Kelley Cahill, who ironically is American, was decked out in a black strap top, white shorts and sunglasses as she congratulated her husband for his remarkable day’s work.

The couple – who met at Arizona State University – married in Spain in 2019 and have two children together, Kepa and Eneko.

Rahm has already proven his class on and off the course this week in Rome after being lauded as a “true gentleman” for doing up Kelley’s shoe at the pre-tournament gala dinner.

But Koepka struggled to show any as he accused Rahm of acting like a petulant “child” after the clutch eagle putt on 18.

That is despite the European star’s clearly muted celebrations following the slightly fortuitous finish which saw the golf ball bounce into the cup.

Viktor Hovland and Justin Rose also sealed half-points in their fourballs with superb efforts on the 18th dance floor.

Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick enjoyed a superb 5&3 victory over Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele to ensure Luke Donald’s Europe are five points clear going into Saturday’s action.

And it ensured, for the first time in Ryder Cup history, that the USA failed to win a single match in a day.
