RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR: Ukraine minister visits Africa, seeks support

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister on Wednesday starts talks with Vice President Tiemoko Meyliet Kone as Kyiv scrambles to court African countries seen as sympathetic to Russia.


Before landing in Abidjan, Dymtro Kuleba was first in Dakar where he met with President Macky Sall.
His Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, have earlier visits two months ago.


The foreign minister said “I am grateful specifically for the proposal from the vice president to arrange contacts between sectoral ministries and agencies in Ukraine and Cote d’Ivoire to analyze specific projects that two of our countries can do together. We spoke a lot about pressing issues that run through various sectors,” Kuleba said.


Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier addressed the African Union via video link, In June, in an attempt to get the continent to its side.


Russian- Ukraine conflict has been blamed for contributing to rising food and fuel prices which are affecting developing countries.
