RELATIONSHIP–PEDESTAL OF FRIENDSHIP HARMONY

We could define a relationship as the ability to relate with one another in the same ship. The word, ‘relationship’ is a conjunction word; relation + ship. I could define the word relation as the bridge of intimacy either by family setting, or other sector of association. I reckon ship to be a dispatch entity, or a moving vessel for life journey. 

Whatever has engaged you with anybody on earth, has implicated you into direct or indirect relationship; it could be full time, lifetime or per-time relationship. Whether you believe it or not; every one of us is in a relationship. Understand that relationship is the platform of friendship. There can be no genuine friendship without adequate relationship. Relationship establishes the affirmation of genuine friendship. For a simpler way; there can be no agreement between the recipients who are involved in a friendship race, except there is a genuine relationship. I will uncover two recipients as a case of study from the Bible, who showed the art of friendship through the power of relationship. 

“After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. 2 From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family. 3 And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. 4 Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.” 1 Sam. 18:1-4(NIV)

Jonathan and David are the best case of study in building a dynamic relationship with people. David was just an ordinary citizen; but Jonathan was an exceptional citizen, because he was a son of a King (Saul). Despite Jonathan was amid availability of resources, he still knew the value of people. David was just an easy-going junior guy, full of passion for destiny vision; which brought him before King Saul. David killed Goliath to cause the nation of Israel free from the bondage of her enemies; this gave David access into the palace. One thing that trills me is that, when Jonathan sighted David in the palace, it attracted him to him, because he saw the values of David, which he (Jonathan) couldn`t have missed. Jonathan knew that David worth establishing a trustable relationship with, so he went after David with all his heart and spirit; he wasn`t after David because of what he could get of him, but he wanted to contribute to David’s destiny fulfillment! For Jonathan to concretize his love for David, he established an unbroken friendship with him by the seal of covenant. Jonathan didn`t stop there; he took off his palace garment and gave it to David. Jonathan gave David a lot of costly gifts for the establishment of genuine friendship. In 1 Sam. 19:2,4,7; you will discover how much more Jonathan loved David. 

KEY POINTS FOR THOUGHT:

Genuine friendship gets established; on heart to heart attraction–there can be no genuine relationship until there is an attraction between soul to soul of the recipients involved. 

Genuine friendship involves the equality of love–for your relationship to be standard; you must love your friend the way you love yourself. 

Authentic friendship touches the family of the recipients–one of the major signs of a genuine relationship is that you should be able to cause your family and relatives to love and accommodate your friend. 

Genuine friendship gets established base on legal covenant–if we must reckon your relationship to be true; you should institute a covenant of trust for each other or one another. 

I base genuine friendship on humility–you should be able to humble yourself before your friend, because relationship is not all about seniority. 

I base genuine friendship on the transaction of giving–there can be no genuine relationship until it involves costly giving. Relationship is not all about what you could get out of it, but what you can give to it.  

There are stages of relationship:

First, destiny relationship:- this is a potential or calling relationship, which has divinely brought you together with the people who have the same calling with you. 

Second, the believers’ relationship:- this relationship has divinely brought every believer on the same road of eternal goal, and in the same ship of worship to God.            

Third, Marital relationship:- this is the relationship that involves sexual emotion for martial institution. 

Fourth, friendship relationship:- this is the friendship that establishes two or more people in a relationship, base on similar ideas or character traits. 

Fifth, associational relationship:- this is the friendship, which is base on a group: educational association, workers or staff members association, business association, peer group association, etc. 

Sixth, periodic relationship:- these are the people you meet every day, base on your day-to-day activities i.e. when you enter the same vehicle with anybody; that is a temporal relationship, because there could be a display of character in that your short day-to-day.      

Seventh, genetic relationship:- this involves the relationship between you and your family members or relatives. 

Beloved, everybody on earth is in a relationship. God didn`t create any man to isolate in life. That is why He created Eve for Adam, to boost His consent of a godly relationship on earth. Do you know that there are people that can`t keep relationship? They lack relationship management. Whether such persons meet with sympathetic people, the relationship will not still last! If people don`t last in your life, you have a relationship management problem. If you don`t have any relationship that has last from 10 years and above; you lack the managerial skills for a viable relationship. If everybody you meet is bad; the problem is from you! The best way to know good worker, before he or she can be employed in any company is to look into the curriculum vitae (CV) to observe the person`s duration of work experience. How can a person work in different places in a short period of time? It could be a sign of lack of relationship management with organization. 

The solidity of friendship is sponsored by constant relationship. If you don`t relate with your friends as at when due; it would destroy your relationship soon. Relationship involves healthy and constant communication, giving of love and resources, physical contact dealings etc. which causes friendship to be fertile. What you invested into your relationship is what it will give back to you. If you always want your friends to call you first before you check on them, you are giving nothing to boost that relationship; so, it could die soon! Before any relationship can crash, the needful have been violated! If you treat your friends the way you treat yourself, that relationship will last longer; but if you always want to be the best, so the other could be the inferior; that relationship will not last. Nobody is totally bad; it depends on how you treat him or her. Not everyone that breaks out of you that is a bad friend; check your principles of managing relationship before you conclude, else, you could use the same principles on the new friends you are meeting or about to meet soon. 

Don`t mix up your relationship categories; separate it and define it, so you can be able to sponsor it with the right skills. For example, I have friends we have been together for over 20 years now; we are still in unbroken relationship. I could meet other friends, but I know where they belong in my life. Remember that it is not God`s will for any man to be isolated for life; so, get involved in a healthy relationship, invest in it, and you will have good return on a constant basis. If you have a humanitarian calling, you must learn relationship management. If you are called into gospel ministry, you must learn to manage people in a godly way; because you cannot do without relating with people. Lack of people management, is the reason people don`t stay and get rooted in certain churches. Thanks and, God bless you for reading!
