Punters slam Epsom ‘disgrace’ as some stalls appear to open before others in race
PUNTERS were left fuming after the stalls appeared to open at alarmingly different intervals in the Epsom Dash.
Stalls 16, 18, 19 and 20 seemed to open far later than the rest, while stall 14 appeared to open earlier than all others.
Those who exited from those stalls finished 15th, 20th, 14th and 17th respectively.
Alligator Alley appeared to get a small head start from stall 14 but could not take advantage, finishing down in 12th.
The race was ultimately won by 25-1 shot Navello, who exited from stall 5.
The top ten finishers were all housed in lower stalls, with Sampers Seven finishing tenth from stall 12, the highest draw of the top-ten finishers.
The issue was picked up on Racing TV with hosts Nick Lightfoot and Dave Nevison discussing the issue soon after the race.
Punters on social media were quick to spot the issue, with one saying: “Hard to see how or why the stewards won’t void the Dash at Epsom. Four horses were beaten by the stalls.”
Another said: “Are all the later Epsom races going to have different stalls opening times? As I will give betting on them a swerve if they are.”
While one more added: “I’m sure has happened before at Epsom in a sprint years ago when all the low numbers opened before the high drawn stalls.”
Many punters have speculated that a void race could be called, though there is yet to be any reaction from the British Horseracing Authority or Epsom themselves.
