PDP Crisis: Wike Has Right To Express His Grievances – Anyanwu

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has backed Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on his grievances with the party.

Naija News reports that Wike’s loss at the PDP presidential primaries is understood to have created a gulf between him and the leadership of the party.

The eventual emergence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the PDP vice presidential candidate has further widened the gap.

Though there have been calls and moves for reconciliation, particularly between Wike and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2023 polls, it is understood that so far, the efforts have not been successful.

This has given rise to speculations that the Rivers Governor may dump the PDP and not support Abubakar in his quest to emerge as the next president of Nigeria.

In an interview with The Nation on Thursday, Anywanwu said Wike has every right to express his grievances following the outcome of the PDP presidential primary election.

The former lawmaker stated that if Wike thinks the PDP presidential primary election was flawed, he has the right to express his grievances.

“When a man contests an election and he doesn’t win and he feels that something was wrong, he has the right to express his grievances,” he said.

He, however, expressed optimism that the crisis will be resolved soon, adding the process of reconciliation takes a different process before it can be resolved.

Anyanwu also denied claims that the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, said the positions held by the South should be swapped with those from the North.

He said: “The statement credited to the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu that positions held by the South be swapped with those from the North was a media hype. I am not aware of it, they are all creations of the media.”
