The government of Nasarawa State has expressed its unhappiness regarding the disappointing performance of the state’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) team, Nasarawa United.

This concern has come to the forefront in light of Nasarawa United’s unexpected home defeat at the hands of Kwara United, which has raised alarms among stakeholders and fans alike.

In response to this alarming situation, the Deputy Governor of the state, Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, convened an emergency meeting with key stakeholders associated with the club.

The meeting took place at the temporary office of the Deputy Governor in Lafia, where various stakeholders gathered to discuss the club’s troubling trajectory.

During the meeting, Akabe emphasized the unacceptability of the team’s inconsistent performance in the league, particularly highlighting the recent home loss as a pivotal moment that required immediate attention.

He said, “This meeting is necessitated by the loss to Kwara United. His Excellency, the Governor, and my principal are very upset about this and have directed me to convene this meeting to find a way forward for our club.”

Akabe further expressed the collective disappointment in the team’s lacklustre form, calling for “drastic measures” to be taken to restore the competitiveness of Nasarawa United.

He reassured attendees that the government would do everything possible to provide the players and team personnel with the support and resources necessary for success, saying, “We will work round the clock to ensure that our players and team members receive the best support and resources to excel.”

Currently, Nasarawa United’s performance in the NPFL has been subpar, with the team managing only three wins, three draws, and suffering five defeats in the current season. They are currently placed 17th in the league table with 12 points, three points above the two Bottom-placed teams, Akwa United and Bendel Insurance.
