Nottingham Forest complete dramatic transfer deadline day triple swoop including Real Madrid legend and ex-Liverpool ace

NOTTINGHAM FOREST have confirmed THREE deadline day signings in Felipe, Jonjo Shelvey and Keylor Navas.

The Tricky Trees brought in a remarkable 23 new players during the summer window ahead of their first season back in the Premier League for more than two decades.

And the fresh-faced squad, led by manager Steve Cooper, has navigated its way out of the relegation zone and up to 13th in the table.

But Forest were not willing to let the mid-season window go by without strengthening further.

Inside the final hours of Tuesday’s deadline, the East Midlands outfit announced the arrival of a trio of stars.

The first came in the form of centre-back Felipe, 33, who left Atletico Madrid to pen an 18-month deal.

Shelvey, 30, was the next man to be confirmed by the club as he swapped Newcastle for Nottingham – signing a contract until 2025.

And finally, Cooper welcomed Paris Saint-Germain keeper Navas into the fold.

The former Real Madrid shot-stopper, 36, has signed on loan until the end of the season.

Forest fans will be hoping the latest three additions will further their bid to stay up.

Speaking about joining the club, Felipe said: “It was a dream of mine to play in the Premier League and I’m really excited to be part of this wonderful, fast-growing club.

“You can see it’s a club looking to really grow. It’s a big challenge for me and I made a clear decision to be part of the history here and grow with the club.”

The Brazilian-born defender has a vast amount of experience to bring to the squad.

He played more than 100 games for both Porto and Atletico, winning the LaLiga title with Diego Simeone‘s men in 2021.

Meanwhile, Shelvey announced his arrival by saying: “It’s a pleasure to be here. As soon as I found out Forest were interested, it caught my eye straight away and I just couldn’t wait to get down here.

“It’s a fantastic football club that has so much history and I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

He then added: “I spoke to Eddie Howe and he had such good words to say about Steve Cooper.

“I previously knew of him from my time at Liverpool, so I knew what a fantastic coach he was, but meeting him for the first time has been a breath of fresh air.

“He’s told me what he expects and the high standards he sets, so I can hope I can come and help the team push to stay in the Premier League.

“I’ve been in this league a long time, I know what it takes to stay up and what it takes to get a good team to gel, so I’m looking forward to getting started and working with the players that are here.”

Shelvey came through at Charlton and then signed for Liverpool in 2010.

He played 69 times for the Reds before joining Swansea and then Newcastle where he helped secure promotion back to the Premier League.

The midfielder racked up more than 200 appearances for the Magpies.

But Forest’s most decorated deadline day signing was undoubtedly keeper Navas.

The Costa Rican won the LaLiga title and three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid.

He then joined PSG and has gone on to claim two Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups.
