Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Ejimakor Discloses Reason IPOB Cannot Be Referred To As A Terrorist Group

Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Ejimakor Discloses Reason IPOB Cannot Be Referred To As A Terrorist Group

Aloy Ejimakor, a Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to reports ranking the proscribed group as the 10th deadliest terrorist organization in the world.

Naija News recalls that the Global Terrorism Index recently ranked IPOB as the 10th deadliest terror group in the world in 2022 because the group was responsible for 57 deaths in the year 2022, from 40 attacks with 16 persons injured.

Reacting, Ejimakor, noted that the report from the Global Terror Index was false.

He argued that IPOB was only named in the organization index report because the Nigerian Government had declared the group a terrorist organization.

The lawyer insisted that a terrorist group cannot be registered like IPOB.

Speaking via Twitter, he wrote, : “It’s FALSE that IPOB is now ranked the 10th deadliest terrorist group in the world by the Global Terror Index. IPOB was only mentioned as having been declared a terrorist group in Nigeria. IPOB is registered. Terrorist groups can’t be registered. If you try, you will be arrested.”

Reason For Continued Detention Of Nnamdi Kanu

Meanwhile, Ejimakor has said that tribal politics is the reason for the continued detention of the Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking via a tweet, Ejimakor argued that tribal politics would end up tearing the country apart.

Quoting former president of the United States, Barack Obama, the lawyer noted that politics based on tribe and ethnicity would eventually destroy a country.

He stated that the politics holding down Kanu is not based on law but on tribe.

He wrote, “A politics that’s based on tribe and ethnicity is doomed to tear a country apart” – Barack Obama.

“The continued detention of #MNK is not based on law but on the same politics of tribe that will surely tear Nigeria apart, sooner than later. You can’t have it both ways. Never!”

Kanu had remained in detention since he was arrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria.

He was arrested over his agitation for segregation and actualization of Biafra.
