The PUNCH: Oil marketers, on Friday, said the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, was still problematic, but expressed confidence that queues for the product at filling stations would soon disappear. Also, dealers under the aegis of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, threatened to shut down operations if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited continues to deny them direct access to it in terms of payment for products.
The Guardian: The House of Representatives has applauded the partnership between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and Tantita Security Service Nigeria Ltd owned by Oweizide Ekpemupolo (a.k.a) Tompolo to secure oil facilities in the oil-rich Niger Delta. Deputy Majority Leader, Peter Akpatason, who led the high-powered delegation of the House on a three-day visit to the creeks/riverine areas of Delta State for oversight function, remarked that the initiative had led to an increase in the volume of crude oil production by the country
This Day: Two United States-based Democracy institutions – the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) – have expressed concern about the activities of separatist groups and informal security outfits in the South-east and South-west of Nigeria, warning that they could be recipes for election violence in 2023. An international delegation of the NDI and the IRI raised the alarm in Abuja yesterday while presenting its second joint pre-election assessment statement on Nigeria’s approaching 2023 elections.
The Nation: THERE is fresh panic in the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over his chances in the February election, following the latest verbal attack on some of his key allies by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo, at a recent meeting with a PDP delegation at his Abeokuta residence ,had come hard on two Atiku’s allies ,branding them betrayers.
Daily Trust: The rising cost of food, due to inflation, has continued to take its toll on Nigerians, forcing families to adjust to the starko realities, findings by Daily Trust Saturday revealed. This is even as analysts have warned that the worst is yet to come given the recent flooding experienced in most parts of the country
