Newcastle vs Borussia Dortmund preview
Things couldn’t be going better for Newcastle.
Eddie Howe’s side are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions, winning six of those with a healthy 22 goals scored and six clean sheets to boot.
The Magpies hammered Crystal Palace 4-0 on Saturday, and that’s the fourth time they have scored 4+ goals in a competitive match during the 2023-24 campaign.
But their success isn’t limited to the domestic campaign.
The Toon are top of Group F with four points from two games after a credible 0-0 draw at AC Milan followed by a 4-1 demolition of European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.
It should be white-hot atmosphere under the lights at St James’ Park, but Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to simply wilt given they are unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga games.

It would take a brave person to bet against Newcastle, especially at home. The Magpies have won SIX of their SEVEN games at St James’ Park this season, including big impressive wins over the likes of PSG, Manchester City and Aston Villa.
They have scored 18 goals and registered four clean sheets during that run, and that’s important given the visitors haven’t managed a Champions League goal in either of their two games.
They have turned St James’ Park into something of a fortress, while only Arsenal and Manchester City have conceded fewer shots on target this season.

So, where are the goals coming from? Everywhere really. That’s great for Newcastle but not ideal for punters.
Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak are obviously the most likely source of goals given they’ve combined for 11 goals this term. But Anthony Gordon looks a good price to get on the scoresheet at 21/10.
The 22-year-old has three goals to his name this season, including the opener against Crystal Palace over the weekend. Only Isak has had more attempts on goal (18) and he’s averaging an effort every 36.4 minutes in the league.

Newcastle will attack from the very first whistle, and Borussia Dortmund aren’t the type of side to simply sit back and absorb.
Edin Terzic’s side will look to commit bodies forward in search of goals, and that could prove a dangerous tactic against this ruthless Toon side.
Dortmund gave up 14 efforts to AC Milan in their last Champions League match, and a further 17 against PSG in their opener. They’ve not managed a clean sheet on the road and have conceded 2+ goals four times already this season.
