Newcastle make shock transfer U-turn over Bruno Guimaraes with Toon chiefs set to offer Brazilian bumper new deal

NEWCASTLE are ready to offer midfielder Bruno Guimaraes a bumper wage increase to keep him at the club, according to reports.

The Magpies plan to build a team around the South American ace but it’s no secret the 24-year-old is itching for some Champions League football.

Head coach Eddie Howe recognises the need for the club to break into Europe’s top competition saying: “We desperately want Bruno to be happy here, to see a long-term vision here.

“As long as player sees ambition in the club and progression in the club we can fulfil his need.”

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that a new deal will be offered “very soon”.

It comes after Newcastle chiefs earlier this week admitted that they may have to cash in on big names like Guimaraes to fund their title dreams.

But they’re now doing everything they can to keep the superstar including offering up a new deal in a bid to deter other clubs from stealing him.

The Brazilian-born midfielder signed from Lyon for around £42million in January.

Since his arrival he’s scored seven goals and bagged two assists while being a force in the middle of the pitch.

The top talent’s been closely watched by other clubs including Real Madrid who have been known to admire his footwork.

It’s been a great 12 months for Newcastle jumping from 19th to sixth and spending over £200m on transfers in the process.

Breaking into the Championships League will be key for the Magpies to be able retain their top talent with sporting director Dan Ashworth warning other club’s that Guimaraes is not for sale.

Ashworth put it simply: “We don’t want to sell him.”
