NBA executive Adam Silver reveals when Ja Morant’s suspension will be announced after ‘additional information’ found

JA Morant is likely looking at a lengthy suspension after more detail emerges in the NBA’s investigation.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced on Wednesday that the league discovered additional information, and his suspension won’t be announced until after the NBA Finals is over.

Silver was asked about Morant ahead of Game 1 in Denver between the Nuggets and Miami Heat and expressed that he didn’t want this situation to distract from the NBA Finals.

“We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information. We probably could have brought it to a head now,” Silver said.

“But we’ve made the decision, and I believe the Players Association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce that decision in the middle of this series.”

The Memphis Grizzlies star guard is currently under investigation by the NBA after appearing to flash a handgun in an Instagram Live video in May.

He’s also suspended from the team, but the Grizzlies are eliminated, so the length of the suspension is unknown.

This is Morant’s second time he flashed a weapon on social media in less than three months.

In a separate Instagram Live on March 4 at a strip club in Colorado, he appeared holding a gun following a Grizzlies loss to the Nuggets in Denver.

Morant served an eight-game suspension without pay for the incident and issued a public apology.

He also attended a short counseling program in Florida and then rejoined the Grizzlies afterward.

Morant returned to a standing ovation and cheers from the Grizzlies fans and went on to score 17 points off the bench in a victory against the Houston Rockets.

Morant continued where he left off and led the Grizzlies to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, where they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
