The 51-year-old was warming up for the Rally La Nucia when the crash occurred.

Verstappen was driving downhill in a Skoda Fabis RS in testing when he hit the barrier on the side of the road after heading into a right-hand bend too fast.

It resulted in the front of the Red Bull sponsored vehicle being heavily damaged.

The metal barrier prevented Verstappen and co-driver Renaud Jamoul from flying off the cliff.

Jamoul later confirmed he and the Dutchman did not suffer any injuries.

The race event is part of the Spanish Rally Super Championship happening in Alicante between November 2-4.

Verstappen is no novice to rally cars, having raced in the Belgian Rally Championship while also making his World Rally Championship debut at the Ypres Rally in 2022.

He started 106 F1 Grand Prix’s over an active career spanning nine years.
